(IRVING, TX) A pair of Iowa State men’s basketball players were honored today by the Big 12 Conference in its annual coaches postseason awards. Junior forward Craig Brackins was named All-Big 12 Second Team and senior forward Marquis Gilstrap earned honorable mention honors. Brackins, who was a first team selection last year, led ISU in scoring (16.5 ppg.) and averaged 8.6 rebounds, ranking in the top-10 in the league in both categories. The Palmdale, Calif., native became just the sixth player in school history to record 1,500 points and 700 rebounds in a career earlier this season. He recorded 13 double-doubles on the year to rank fourth in the Big 12 and his 31 career doubles ties for fifth all-time in school history. Gilstrap, a native of Covington, Ga., was outstanding in his first season with the Cyclones. Gilstrap averaged 14.8 points and led the Cyclones in rebounding at 9.4 rpg, the fourth-best total in the conference. In league games only, Gilstrap led the Big 12 in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and was the only player in the conference to average a double-double (15.3 ppg/10.3 rpg). He ended the year earning Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors five times.
