(Storm Lake, IA) The Buena Vista baseball team couldn't overcome a quick start by Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon, as the Beavers saw their season come to an end with a 10-3 setback to the Titans.

The Titans took the early first inning lead by getting a pair of runs on three hits for a 2-0 lead. They then extended it to 5-0 in the third after loading the bases with no outs. After a line-out to center for the first out, IWU then got back-to-back singles for the five-run advantage.

BVU got one run back in the fourth on a Mike Hoffman sacrifice fly to left field, scoring junior Brad Blum (Earling, Iowa/Harlan), who had walked to lead off the frame and advanced to third on Mike Stephenson's (Omaha, Neb./Skutt Catholic) single to left.

The Titans, who tallied 15 hits through the first five innings, would go on to add a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take a 10-1 lead.

Senior Brandon Pietrzyk (Portland, Ore./Marshall) homered for the second time in the tournament in the sixth for his only hit of the day, and Tyler Case (Tucson, Ariz./Santa Rita) added a two-out single in the seventh to cut the deficit to 10-3, but it was too-little-to-late in the end. Stephenson finished his final game 3-for-4, while Mark Blum, Brad Blum, Kevin Kloewer (Omaha, Neb./Millard South), Case, Pietrzyk, and Brett Wilson all finished with one. Junior Luke Probasco got the start and went three innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Steve Johnston, Reggie Kock, and Nick Lanning all worked an inning of relief, while Tyler Lefeber allowed just two hits in two innings. Brad Blum, Pietrzyk, and Wilson were also recognized on the regional all-tournament team. Buena Vista closes out its season at 32-13.
