Written by BVU Athletic Department

(Storm Lake, IA) Andy Soper's (Estherville, Iowa/ELC) final round 76 turned out to be good enough, as he finished the 2010 Iowa Conference Men's Golf Championships at 298 and winning the medalist race by three strokes. As a team, the Beavers posted the lowest team round of the day (308), while ending the Championships in third place.

Soper becomes the first Beaver to win medalist honors since Bill Naughton did so in 1985. He also helped guide the team to just its second top-three finish since 1998-99 and its highest since taking second in 2006-07.

Jaron Smool (Bagley, Iowa/Panorama) and Mitch Brunick (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) also turned in final round 76's with Smool just missing out on earning all-conference honors after a tie for 11th. The top-10 finishers earn such recognition. Sophomore Troy Ticknor (Adel, Iowa/ADM) tied for 24th after posting a final round 80 with Kyle Auffert's (Calrinda, Iowa/Clarinda) 91 rounding out the individual scores.

Central College won the team race by 11 strokes over runner-up Luther College, which finished one stroke in front of BVU. By winning medalist honors, Soper is automatically named the IIAC Men's Golfer of the Year. Wartburg College's Alan Smith was voted as this year's IIAC Coach of the Year.
