Wheeling a hot bat

(Le Mars, IA) – When you’re hitting .507, you’re doing something right, and Kayla Hatting of Le Mars-Gehlen is doing just that.  The daughter of Kirk and Patty Hatting, Kayla attributes her success to her father. 

     “I started out slow this season, but my Dad worked with me on it [stance, swing and meeting the ball], and now it’s working out pretty well,” Kayla said.  Comes this fall, she will be entering her senior year, and with it a finale in volleyball, basketball and track.  Softball, however, is her favorite sport, one she hopes to carry on into the collegiate level.

Extending the season

(Le Mars, IA) – At 5’8” and 185-pounds, Le Mars Community’s Tyler Candor packs a punch at the plate.  He’s as consistent as they come, and the reason for that is his determination to improve.  As for batting average, well, Candor doesn’t look at it and doesn’t want to know.  His main focus is getting hits.

Dynamo at shortstop

     (Sioux City, IA) – Senior Alexa Rudeen, the daughter of Rick and Kaye Rudeen, is not lacking for confidence either playing on the SC-North infield or at the plate swinging a bat.  After all, she’s played the diamond game since T-ball days.

     Watching the North Star shortstop on defense, Alexa picks up both soft and hard grounders with apparent ease, and she has a nice fluid motion on her throws.
