(Sioux City, IA) – Shortstops used to be, on average, small, fast guys. Not to offend our shorter brethren, let’s say the ideal shortstop looks and moves like former St. Louis Cardinal great, Ozzie Smith. Jerad Barth of Sioux City East High may not do back flips as Ozzie Smith used to do, but performance wise, the 18-year-old senior shortstop has the range, speed, and quickness it takes to play one of the most demanding positions in baseball. At 6’1” and 185-pounds, young Barth represents the new breed of shortstop we see on baseball diamonds today.

(Sioux City, IA) – Coming off a 7-3 win over ranked Council Bluffs Lewis Central, Thursday (June 19, 2009) night in Sioux City, senior second baseman C.J. Nolan felt pretty good. He contributed to the Sioux City West victory by powering in two RBIs on a double and single. The 6’1” 215-pounder intimated that it was just the beginning of big things happening at West.
